چکیده

A SOT.U~ON containing fluoride (0.4 N NH4F, 0.1 br HC1, ~ NH4C1), pcrmi~ the concentration of dioctahedral mica end dioctahedral vermiculite in mixed clay systems. AUophane, haUoysite, kaolinite, and in particular, Mg-rich montmorfllonite, biotite, and vermiculite of clay size, are destroyed in 24-48 hr at room temperature. A salt-free, NH4-saturated sample, weighing 80 mg, is shaken in 80 ml of the fluoride solution. The residue is washed with water and X-ray diffraction patterns made. The method has use in characterizing some of the 2:1 layer silicates in clays. Anatase, if present, is also concentrated and is more positively identified by X-ray diffraction. I N T R O D U C T I O N SoME of the principal components of many soil clays are dioc~ahedral mica and expansible derivatives thereof. A method has been devised to concentrate these components by dissolution of other common major components of the clay fraction. The technique has use in characterizing some of the 2:1 layer silicates in clays and in concentrating anatase as well as the dioctahedral mica and vermiculite. The distinguishing features of the proposed method are its specificity for concentrating dioctahedral mica and dioctahedral vermiculite and its simplicity. Kiely and Jackson (1964, 1965) proposed a method for concentrating quartz and feldspar by the dissolution of the layer silicates. These authors also review other methods for the removal of layer silicates from quartz and feldspars. HasMmoto and Jackson (1960) published a method for the stepwise removal of (1) allophane, gibbsRe, and amorphous Si02 and Al~0a, (2) interlayer material, and (3) kaolinite and halloysite by initially heating successively at 110, 400, and 500~ respectively, followed by a 2.5rain boiling in 0.5 N NaOH. Brown (1953) and Rich and Obenshain (1955) employed neutral NH4F remove interlayer material from vermiculite. Rich and Cook (1963) used the

تأثیر ماده‌ی آلی بر تغییرات کانی‌شناسی فلوگوپیت و موسکویت در اندازه‌ی رس در محیط ریشه‌ی یونجه

Weathering of K-bearing minerals as the major source of potassium in soils is of special importance under K deficient conditions. Many studies have been carried out on the effect of plant types and microorganisms on the transformation of micaeous minerals and their potassium release. However, there is no information on the effect of organic matter on mineralogical changes in micaceous minerals....

تأثیر ماده آلی بر قابلیت جذب پتاسیم از میکاهای دوجایی و سه‌جایی توسط یونجه

Many studies have been carried out on the effect of organic matter on soil physical, chemical, biological, and nutritional properties, including the effect of organic matter on the availability of such elements as P, N and heavy metals. There is, however, no information on the effect of organic matter on potassium uptake from micaceous minerals. The objective of this study was to investigate th...

Dissolution Process of Phlogopite in Acid Solutions

-The alteration experiments of phlogopite with 0.01 N HC1 solution containing 0.1 M NaC1 at 50*, 80* and 120"C have been carried out to aid in the understanding of the dissolution process of mica and the formation of secondary phases such as vermiculite and interstratified mica/vermiculite. Twenty milligrams of phlogopite samples were suspended in 20 ml or 100 ml of leaching solution. In these ...

Organic Control of Dioctahedral and Trioctahedral Clay Formation in an Alkaline Soil System in the Pantanal Wetland of Nhecolândia, Brazil

Recent studies have focused on the formation of authigenic clays in an alkaline soil system surrounding lakes of the Nhecolândia region, Pantanal wetland. The presence of trioctahedral Mg-smectites (stevensite and saponite types), which requires low Al and Fe contents in the soil solution for its formation, contrasts with the neoformation of dioctahedral Fe-mica (glauconite, and Fe-illite), whi...

Fluoride Ions Removal using Yttrium Alginate Biocomposite from an Aqueous Solution (RESEARCH NOTE)

Removal of fluoride ions was investigated using a new adsorbent of yttrium alginate biocomposite (YALG). Effect of various parameters such as pH, contact time, initial concentration of fluoride ions and temperature on the sorption capacity of adsorbent was studied. Performing a mathematical assessment of fluoride sorption, isotherm and kinetics models including Freundlich & Langmuir isotherms a...
